Here i was , went library to study for my pathology viva tomorrow, and reading lectures by lectures, and in sudden this brings my interest to rest and start blogging
Atherosclerosis- What is it?
Deposition of fibrous plaque on the intima ( blood vessels) and this deposition can be due to cholesterol, calcium, collagen.
Risk Factors - This is clearly a part of this lecture that stole my attention.
Primary modifiable
Hyperlipidemia
Smoking
Diabetes
Hypertension
Secondary modifiable
abdominal obesity
lack of vegetables and fresh fruits
sedentary lifestyle
stress
Alright, time to do some explaination. As you can clearly see, the increase of risk in atherosclerosis is based on 4 aspects, Diet as the first, Exercise as the second, Lifestyle as the 3rd, and finally environmental factors.
In my opinion, diet is usually misjudge and misunderstood by many people. Often times, people think that the word "diet" means eating less to starve oneself to obtain the FINAL GOAL which is to reduce weight. However, a healthy diet shouldnt be labeled as the definition given above. It should be apply in daily life and we should be enjoying the process of a healthy diet instead of hearing growling of stomach in lecture classes.
Secondly, is regarding Exercise. By exercising, one can increase the fitness level of the body and also increase metabolism which leads to decrease of body fat accumulation especially in abdominal region, below the thighs and the fluffy and saggy part below the arm.
3rdly, is the lifestyle. In my opinion, one can enjoy life by going outing in clubs, drinking some alcohol (not EXCESSIVELY - once a week) and late night supper in some mamaks. This is still acceptable in my opinion, as this is not a routine and SMOKING is definitely something i against totally. Although risk is there and smokers too do know bout the consequences, they still smoke.
4th is the environmental workload in life especially when we far reach into the high managerial post in some huge companies. The stress can lead to hypertension and several mental diseases for example depression, anxiety and etc etc etc.
In conclusion, a healthy diet and lifestyle should be practiced throughout our life. And if you take notice clearly on diabetes,it seems that diabetes always leads to other diseases .
